The New Arrival
Groudle should see a new locomotive in action during the summer of 2007. The railway took delivery during January of a new locomotive engine. Richard Booth acquired the engine which was designed by Mr. Ernest Baguley, who designed Sea Lion. It is a diesel locomotive 0-4-0, number 3232 built in 1947, which first ran in Glasgow on the exhibition railway before arriving at Hope Bank Pleasure Park and Zoo. In later years it joined Butlins at Clacton Camp where it featured on the television series Hi-Di-Hi. The diesel engine (powered by the original Perkins P4 diesel engine) appears in good order. The wheels require returning and after a repaint the locomotive should be in action.
