Christmas 2007 at Groudle

The 2007 Christmas celebrations began at the railway on the 16th of December with the first of three 'Santa Special' days. Carriages double headed by 'Sea Lion' and 'Annie' left Lhen Coan escorting Santa to greet the first visitors at Limekiln Halt on a bright but cold Sunday morning. Santa returned with a crowd of excited youngsters to his grotto. Proud mums and dads were treated to mince pies and hot drinks to warm them up as their children opened their gifts from Santa. Steady streams of passengers and excited children queued at Limekiln halt all day for the trip to meet Santa himself.

Sunday the 23rd proved the most popular day with around fourteen hundred visitors. With such numbers the wait for the train was somewhat longer than the previous two specials but the volunteers tried their best to ferry everyone to Santa's Grotto as quickly as possible.

On Boxing Day the annual mince pie trains ran and catered for just over four hundred visitors. With a train ride, a mince pie and a hot cuppa for £2, the 'special' was great value for money.

The volunteers worked hard to make the Christmas specials a success and after 23 years of festive celebrations they still add a special bit of Christmas magic to the glen.
