When the trains cease running during the winter period the volunteers remain very active maintaining the railway. Much of the effort has been concentrated at Lhen Coan and the new engine shed. The railway line is in good condition no doubt partly due to the better quality sleepers put in in recent years. While no major relays required work some point timbers were replaced before the 2008 summer season. The bus shelter which has a traditional pitched roof appearance was installed at Lime Kiln Halt minus the roof (which was damaged by vandals). It is hoped to have the roof in place at some point during the 2008 season. When the shelter is completed the 'sentry box' hut will be removed. The steps on the approach to Lime Kiln Halt also received attention before the Christmas period as 'North Pole Halt' receives many visitors in the lead up to the Christmas period. The interior of the Sea Lion Rocks building was repainted at the close of the 2007 season and now has a lighter magnolia appearance. New railings for the front of the lawn area have arrived and will be installed when the volunteers get the time. The appearance of the station at Lhen Coan is also receiving some attention with re-painting and repairs. All in all it was a very busy time for the volunteers. The railway passed its annual inspection by HM Inspecting Officer of Railways in March.
