It was a busy day as the engines were moved into the new engine shed. The locomotive / carriage shed erected in the early eighties was no longer big enough to house the railway's growing collection of locomotives and coaches. Although it was physically possible to keep everything undercover there was very little room left to move and maintenance was extremely difficult. The new engine shed is a new two-road shed on the site of the original Lhen Coan station siding. It is of timber construction and largely accurate to the original locomotive shed. The foundations for the shed had been laid during May and June 2007. The shed arrived 'flat-packed' in early July and was assembled shortly afterwards by a team from the suppliers 'Kingsland Sawmills Ltd.' Work since then has consisted of laying the concrete floor, complete with inspection pit, drainage, track work, plumbing and electrical. The sponsorship received from the Manx Heritage Foundation and the Heritage Lottery Trust have enabled us to complete the project.
