Polar Bear has returned to Groudle a number of times, most recently in 2005 to celebrate its 100th Birthday.
Polar Bear, like Sea Lion, is a 2-4-0 side tank having outside cylinders and boilers with marine fireboxes. However Polar Bear is slightly larger and her design incorporated several improvements. The original livery of Polar Bear was yellow ochre with red and maroon bands.
During the 1930's Polar Bear's livery was mid brunswick green edged in black, with their names in gold letters shaded with blue. In 1961-62 she sported a 'fairground livery' with cab and tanks painted with a blue waist strip, light yellow lining and lettering, the boiler and smokebox were blue. |
